A postcard from holidays or in other words - FCE Travel Vocabulary Revision!

India 2012

How many of you got so caught up in revising grammar before the FCE exam that you forgot about the vocabulary somewhere along the way? Of course, it is very important to know about tenses, modals and subjonctives, but believe me, it is absolutely NECESSARY to have a wide range of vocabulary. Why? Because your essays will be judged by it, because your speaking exam will depend on it, and finally - because you will not notice all the typical catches with words' synonyms and antonyms used regularly during the reading and listening parts.

For the ones that get easily demotivated by thinking - 'How can anybody learn all the vocabulary needed for the exam?!' I am answering - easily if you group it by categories. FCE, like all the other Cambridge exams, has its own structure and themes that keep reappearing. It's no different when it comes to vocabulary. There are around 15 general topics that are explored at the exam over and over again. Today, I'm going to show you the first category so beloved by the examinators - Travel & Holidays.
